A decade after the post-election violence that had left 1,100 dead, concern is set to approach the presidential scheduled on October 26.

This new date was set following the invalidation of the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on August 8 by the Supreme Court. But it turns out that Odinga, the main opponent, had announced his withdrawal from the race, citing the lack of reforms in the Kenyan Electoral Commission (IEBC), which he believes is necessary for a transparent election.

“Taking into account the interests of the people of Kenya, the region and the world, we believe that the interest of all will be better served by the abandonment of [the NASA opposition coalition’s] presidential candidacy in the planned election. October 26, 2017, “Odinga told a news conference. He had subsequently called for mass demonstrations on polling day and assured that there would be “no election” on the 26th.

Recall that at least 37 people died in the violence that followed the announcement of Uhuru Kenyatta’s disputed re-election in Kenya before the vote was canceled.
