Dakar and its surroundings will soon welcome their new jewel, the TER, the regional express train. This road infrastructure will be used to transport passengers between Dakar and Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD). According to Senegalese President Macky Sall, he will be in service “soon”.

The President of the Senegalese Republic Macky Sall is categorical: “Our country will experience, in the coming months, a very modern development of urban transport, with the start of the Regional Express Train, which has caused a lot of water to flow under the bridges. But it will start soon, if it pleases God, in 2021, “he said on Tuesday, September 29 at the closing of a presidential council on the revival of the national economy.

According to APIX, the government agency responsible for major works and state investment, the TER will constitute “the backbone of transport in the Senegalese capital”. A pole that needs development but also resources for the modernization of the road sector.

This new infrastructure has been the subject of controversy among the population and civil society over its cost, since the start of work in 2017, part of the structure of which was only delivered in 2019. It will ensure the transport of thousands of passengers per day over nearly sixty kilometers with a journey time of forty-five minutes.
