The government is working to repatriate 276 Senegalese placed in a detention center in Dakhla, Morocco, revealed Thursday the Interior Minister, Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome. He made this announcement during a trip this morning to Saint-Louis, where he visited the survivors of the capsizing of a canoe carrying migrants.

The boat sank on Wednesday night, killing eight people. The boat was carrying about 60 people when it capsized on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, around 5 a.m., at the mouth of the Senegal River (north).

During his visit to the former capital of Senegal, the Minister of the Interior denied the information that 300 migrants aboard boats from Senegal had perished at sea. The minister assures us that these migrants are doing quite well. He invited on this occasion “those who make certain statements or give information about these Senegalese to pay attention”.

He believes that some information can create panic and great emotion among the parents of the people concerned. He recalled that NGOs and the State have the same objectives in the field of illegal migration.
