An armed attack in northeastern Nigeria in Damboa killed five people and wounded eleven others, according to two commanders of a local anti-terrorism militia, on 03 July 2023.
The insurgents tried to invade the city on Friday, but were confronted with resistance from the militia, a paramilitary group supporting the Nigerian army.
The two commanders reported that the attackers fired at the city remotely, using a rocket-propelled grenade launcher (RPG), killing five people and injuring eleven others.
The five dead were buried on Saturday, while the wounded were evacuated by helicopter to the regional capital, Maiduguri.
Damboa, located 90 kilometres south of Maiduguri and close to the Sambisa Forest, a haven for terrorist groups, has been regularly targeted by attacks for several years, targeting both its inhabitants and its military base.
