NIGERIA: A school attacked in the north of the country

In Nigeria, attacks or child abductions have been on an unprecedented rise for many years. According to Nigerian police, on Friday, December 11, 2020, armed men attacked and abducted children at a secondary school in Katsina State in the north of the country.

According to statements reported by police spokesman Isa Gambo, “the bandits arrived on motorcycles shooting intermittently and tried to enter the school.” Then there was an exchange of fire with the police, which was replaced by the army for almost an hour and a half. Meanwhile, another group took the opportunity to enter school and abduct a dozen children.

No casualties were noted in both ranks but the kidnappers managed to escape with these innocent little ones. Attacks of this nature are common in this part of the country. Often, the bandits kidnap the children and then demand a ransom as a condition of their release.

Already in August 2020, armed men kidnapped, in the middle of a class, a teacher with several of her students in the neighboring state of Kaduna. The hostages were then released but the possible payment of a ransom was not revealed.
