In a statement released this Thursday, February 11, 2021, the collective Lamine Diack turns to the Senegalese and all the good will sensitive to the fate of Lamine Diack, former boss of world athletics. The reason: a guarantee estimated at 500,000 euros (327 million FCFA) that the person concerned will have to pay to leave French territory. His ban on leaving French territory has certainly been lifted by the courts since 20 December 2020, but Lamine Diack still cannot leave the country because he is under arrest “against his will” in France.

The fate of Lamine Diack is now suspended with the payment of the deposit of 327 million CFA francs. The former president of the International Athletics Federation was found guilty of active and passive corruption and breach of trust and was fined up to €500,000.

The collective Lamine Diack says it is ready to engage the fight in order to find the sum that could allow Lamine Diack, 86 years old, to tread the soil of Senegal again after being indicted in November 2015.

Lamine Diack, one of her sons, Pape Massata Diack and four other defendants, are suspected of being at the heart of a vast system of corruption to cover up doped athletes. The former president of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF, 1999-2015) and his 55-year-old son, who headed marketing at IAAF, were among the six protagonists judged for having delayed, from the end of 2011, disciplinary proceedings against Russian athletes suspected of blood doping. Some of these athletes had been crowned at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Kirdyapkin 50 km walk, Zaripova 3,000 m steeple) but were subsequently deposed for doping.
