The list of the new government is finally unveiled this Sunday, November 1, 2020. While some names are surprising, such as the government of the political leader of Rewmi Idrissa Seck,, others are making a revolution, notably that of the politician Aïssata Tall Sall.She became the first woman to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs. This was unprecedented in Senegal’s political history.
Aïssata Tall Sall replaces Amadou Ba who is leaving Senegalese diplomacy. A former Minister of Economy and Finance, he was entrusted with Senegalese diplomacy after the re-election of Macky Sall in 2019. It is now the former Minister of Communication and former Communication Officer of the PS, the Socialist Party which is at the head of this ministry. This appointment is part of an evolution in Senegalese politics.
“It is an enormous responsibility that the President has entrusted to me by his side to be able to carry out the part of his vision of the program that he has defined with regard to foreign policy and our diplomacy in general. You see, I had the opportunity a few days ago to accompany him on a trip to Abuja. I watched him a lot. I saw him do it. And my conviction is that he is the first diplomat in this country,” said the new head of Senegalese diplomacy.
Aïssata Tall Sall is a lawyer. She had left her traditional political family, the PS, to set up her own political party, a movement whose name is set for the future”. Very present on the political ring, it was rejected during the sponsorships, for lack of number of signatures. What she had fiercely contested before supporting the outgoing president, Macky Sall.
