The Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), following its programme of the inspection tour to the commissions of revision of the electoral lists in Tivaouane Peul, Almadies, Grand Dakar and Iba-Mar-Diop stadium, in the Dakar region, this Tuesday, May 03, 2023 faced the press to take stock of this tour. According to its President for the day of April 30, at the national level, more than 280. 000 Senegalese have asked to be on the electoral lists.

The President of the Republic has issued a decree that sets the date of the presidential election to 25 February 2024 and immediately after the electoral process is triggered. One of the first operations is that citizens are required to register in the commissions plus exceptional revisions of the electoral lists. This revision of the electoral lists allows Senegalese who have reached the age of maturity of 18 to register with a piece of identification… According to the latest statistics that have been put together for the day of April 30, there are about 280,000 Senegalese who have asked to be on the national electoral lists. About thirty thousand have asked to be included on the foreign file», said Doudou Ndir.

Continuing his remarks, he says: Today, we are in a commission among hundreds of existing commissions, those of the Iba-Mar-Diop stadium. What we have found here as well as the others the commissions of Tivaouane Peul, Grand-Dakar and also that of the Almadies. What the Senegalese today, which is the last day of the exceptional review, are committed to register with these commissions in peace, discipline and respect of the authorities responsible for conducting these operations. We also noted a spirit of collaboration and partnership that we have seen in the administrative authorities.”

For the president of the CENA, “this way of working hand in hand, between administrative authorities, the population and political parties, is something to be applauded”. He also states that “political parties are members of exceptional review boards”. Doudou Ndir also noted in terms of the deadline, that it was good for everyone to register. Already, the total number of registered suggests that there is a clear interest for Senegalese to go to the polling station on February 25. What we saw in the commissions, the number of voters in the queues, it would have been desirable for the administrative authority to examine this issue with responsibility in the sense of ensuring that Senegalese who have the constitutional right can exercise the right to vote without hindrance,” he suggested.
