We have not yet finished counting the tragedies of irregular migration that are currently shaking Senegal. After the capsizing of a pirogue in the breach of Saint-Louis (north), another sinking was reported on the Moroccan coast, precisely off the town of Dakhla. Among the victims, 8 young people living in Rufisque, this Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The latter, from Thiawlene, a fishing district, wanted to return to Europe by sea.

The tragedy occurred a few weeks ago, off the Mediterranean, with on board about forty young people from the department of Rufisque.

They set sail on Tuesday, July 4, in Mbour. However, the dream of these migrants to set foot on Spanish soil will break in Morocco. Originally, there was an accident that saw their boat hit a reef, before it shattered.

The provisional assessment listed yesterday Sunday, in the Thiawlene neighborhood reported 8 dead and an undetermined number of seriously wounded detained in a makeshift camp in Dakhla.

Daouda Ndoye, spokesman for the families of the victims spoke on the airwaves of the Rfm. He appealed to the authorities: I insist on the situation of the survivors who are in the hospitals in Dakhla. They need emergency assistance. If not, there will be more deaths. We call on the government to repatriate them as soon as possible. They are young people whose parents, through taxes and other means, contribute to the development of this country and are entitled to assistance.”
