The U.S. census office found that the white population in the United States experienced some decline from 2010 to 2020. This majority segment of the American population is estimated at 204 million inhabitants, or 61.6% of the country’s population compared to 72% in 2010. These changes reveal that the American population is much more multiracial,’ said Nicolas Jones, one of the US census bureau officials.
The white American population continues to decline over the years. The US Census Bureau announced an 8.6% decline in the population in a decade, a first since the first surveys, in 1790. Although the United States still has a large majority, the white population is declining in the face of hybridization or multiracialism. The white population remains the largest racial or ethnic group in the United States”, according to the bureau.
However, other components of the US population have increased over the past decade. This includes the Asian population (35.5%), or 20 million inhabitants, representing 6% of the American population.Hispanics follow with a rate of 23%, or 62 million inhabitants, which makes up 18% of the American population. As for the American population, it remained static (12.4%), or 41 million inhabitants. The Amerindians represent only 1.1% of the American population.
It should be noted that the United States Census Bureau, created in 1903, is an American public administration under the United States Department of Commerce. The Constitution of the United States (Article I, Clause 3) states that every ten years the federal government counts the population of the country and changes the number of representatives per state in the United States Congress with this information. In addition, the office collects statistics on the country, citizens and the economy.
