SENEGAL: The new SMIT is named after Professor Moussa Seydi

The President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, today inaugurated the new building of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Service of the Fann Hospital in Dakar. An opportunity taken by the Head of State to honour Professor Moussa Seydi whose commitment to the fight against Covid-19 has been welcomed by all the Senegalese people. The brand new building is named after him.

The announcement by the Head of State, at the time of the inauguration of the new Infectious and Tropical Diseases Service, to name the building after Professor Moussa Seydi, is a way of paying tribute to a Senegalese citizen still at the service of his nation. In his speech, the President of the Republic Macky Sall said: “It is not customary to name a centre after someone who is responsible for it, who is now Professor Seydi.But you deserve to have this centre take your name for example and initiative. ‘

President Macky Sall also told the audience that it was Professor Seydi himself who had the idea of setting up such an infrastructure for the modernization of the health sector. He also oversaw the development of the project, an involvement highly praised by the Head of State. For the latter, it is “a civic, altruistic and patriotic commitment, it is rare nowadays.You remind the world that the act of caring for the doctor is above all an expression of humanity towards the patient and at the service of the common good.”

Professor Moussa Seydi is 56 years old, he is the head of the infectious diseases department of the Fann hospital located in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, located next to the University Cheikh Anta Diop. He is also the Chair of the Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS) Covid-19 Scientific Committee.
