Commander Robert Mugabe, former President of Zimbabwe for 37 years from 1980 to 2017, died on Friday, September 6, 2019 in Singapore where he regularly went for medical care. He was the hero of independence but he is also perceived as the main cause of the economic collapse of his country.

First considered the liberator of Zimbabwe in the first years of the exercise of his power, Robert Mugabe is later accused of being a real despot who did not hesitate to punish his opponents or to defraud to win the elections .

Yet at the very beginning of his reign, the strong man of the country is respected by his people, indeed by the entire African continent, for his revolutionary actions and his fight against the racist government of Ian Smith in April 1980. However, his bad management of political affairs, the land reforms of 2000, the expropriation of land but even more his wish to see his wife Grace Mugabe replace him at the head of the country had caused a political split within ZANU PF, the party in power but also the anger of the Zimbabweans.

Since the loss of power, Robert Mugabe was regularly treated in Singapore where he finally died at the age of 95 years.

He left Zimbabwe in a deep economic crisis that is getting worse today.
