Used by the air forces of China, Indonesia and Algeria, the MIG Sukhoi Su-35 are fighter planes that will allow Egypt to enhance its air security. The cost of these aircraft whose contract has been signed since the end of 2018 between Egypt and Russia, is estimated at more than 2 billion dollars.
The delivery of these fighter aircraft is scheduled for 2020-2021. Egypt will be able to use it for protection missions or to respond to various terrorist threats especially since the country has been the scene of many attacks in recent years.
The MIG Sukhoi Su-35 are multi-role fighter planes of generation 4+. They have a multitude of features, an AESA Irbis radar and are capable of carrying 8 tons of various weapons.
Egypt will become the second African country after Algeria to dispose of these Russian fighter planes. According to Egyptian Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki, “the army is seeking to acquire the strength needed to defeat all aggression on Egyptian soil, in a trusting cooperation between countries that love peace and security.”
Between 2015 and 2018, Egypt signed several arms contracts valued at $ 6.8 billion, notably with France, the third largest arms exporting country in the world.
