The new winner of the Mo Ibrahim Prize is Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the former president of Liberia. She received her award on Friday, April 27, 2018, in Kigali, Rwanda. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will receive $ 5 million, a ten-year amount, and then an annual lifetime grant of $ 200,000.

The committee awarded the Mo Ibrahim Award believes Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the face of unprecedented challenges during her two terms at the helm of Liberia. “Throughout her two terms, she has worked tirelessly on behalf of her fellow citizens. Such a journey can not be flawless, and today Liberia faces many challenges. In twelve years in office, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has laid the foundation on which Liberia can now continue its reconstruction, “said Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, Chair of the Awards Committee.

Note that the Anglo-Sudanese entrepreneur Mo Ibrahim launched the award that bears his name in 2007 to reward leaders who show great leadership.
