The police decided to lift the barriers installed at Ousmane Sonko on Monday without any administrative notification being notified to the interested party. When asked about this retropedalloge, Minister Abdou Karim Fofana speaking for the government gives the reasons. In front of the press, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, he indicated that “there is more risk of maintaining the blockade”, before recalling the State’s Regalian mission.

“(…) The State has a mission of managing the public order. You saw before the month of June, there was a lot of call to demonstrate and to insurrection and all the displacements of Sonko resulted in helmets, deaths, scenes of violence and looting. So to avoid all this the police decided to apply prevention. Today there is more risk, more call for insurrection, more need to maintain the blockade,’ said the government spokesman.

To the question whether we are going towards the arrest of Ousmane Sonko with the court decision available, Mr. Fofana to leave it to the prosecutor.

‘These are legal issues. Although the Minister of Justice mentioned the availability of the justice decision after he has other procedures to follow. So it depends on the Prosecutor of the Republic, unfortunately I am not,” he said.
