The city of Easton London on the east coast of South Africa is currently inconsolable. In a nightclub in this locality, the bodies of 20 young people were discovered by the police on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Some victims died shortly after being admitted to hospital.
The circumstances of these deaths are intriguing in that no apparent injuries have been found on the bodies of the young. According to the city’s provincial police, the victims are between 18 and 20 years old.
How did these young people die? This was the question asked by the crowd of relatives of victims and residents gathered in front of the institution at night. If the possibility of a stampede or a crowd movement is quickly dismissed, the possibility of collective poisoning or gas poisoning is evoked in the press and on social networks. The local authorities have therefore decided to open an investigation to shed light on this macabre discovery.
While awaiting the arrival of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Germany for the G7 summit, senior government officials visited the scene of the tragedy. The Minister of National Police, Bheki Cele, even burst into tears at the sight of the bodies of the young victims in the morgue.
So it’s the sadness in this city of a million people about 700 kilometres south of Johannesburg. The mystery is complete. Let us hope that the investigation carried out by the police will help alleviate the pain of the grieving families by clearly identifying the evil that took away these young people.
