Ousmane Sonko, who has been on hunger strike for more than 2 weeks, was admitted to intensive care, according to the communications officer of his former Pastef, El Malick Ndiaye, Thursday, August 17, 2023

«We bring to the attention of national and international opinion that President Ousmane SONKO is admitted to the intensive care service of the Main Hospital of Dakar following a malaise that occurred last night,» he posted this Thursday.

As a reminder, Ousmane Sonko is in fact accused of having taken to task, Friday, July 28, 2023, a gendarme by forcibly confiscating his mobile phone while the latter filmed him in front of his home in the city Keur Gorgui, on his return from the mosque after Friday prayer. He was arrested at his home by members of the GIGN, the intervention group of the national gendarmerie.

The leader of the African Patriots Party of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (Pastef) himself, on social networks just before his interpellation, explained that he had «snatched» this phone and asked the person to unlock it to erase the images taken, which she would have refused: “Back from the Friday prayer, the general intelligence officers posted in front of my home 24 hours a day began to film me. I personally snatched the phone and asked the person to unlock it and erase the images she took, which she refused.”
