UEFA EURO 2020 – Spain brings Switzerland out of suspense

Spain joins the Euro 2020 semifinals by defeating Switzerland on goal (3 – 1) on Friday 2 July 2021 in Saint Petersburg. The match was tight until the end. The men of Luis Enrique will be at the rendezvous of the last square while waiting for the winner of the match between Belgium and Italy at 7pm at the Allianz Arena. The Spanish coach and his very young team managed to eliminate Switzerland, winner against France on goal on Monday 28 June 2021.

Spain is in the semifinals. Luis Enrique’s team pulled out the Swiss on goal (3 – 1) with an excellent Unai Simon, the Spanish goalkeeper who stopped 3 penalties. The match was totally dominated by the Roja in terms of ball ownership and chances. The Spaniards scored the opening goal of the match in the 8th minute thanks to the Barcelona side, Jordi Alba whose shot was diverted by Denis Zakaria against his side (1 – 0). The Swiss didn’t exist in the first half with no shots on target.

It was in the second half that Vladimir Petković’s men became more incisive by putting pressure on the Spanish defence.Liverpool Reds player Xherdan Shaqiri equalized in the 65th minute, following a disagreement between Enrique Laporte and Pau Torres, the two Spanish centerliners. The score will not change despite the numerous opportunities of the Roja and the red card received by the Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler for a slippery tackle not mastered in the 77th minute.

It was on goal shots that Spain took the lead thanks to its goalkeeper, Unai Simón, who stopped 3 Swiss penalties (3 – 1). Spain is the first team qualified in the semi-final while waiting to know the winner in the big clash between Italy and Belgium at the Allianz Arena.
