The most affected country in Europe has the worst record ever in a day since the start of the epidemic. Spain, for its part, deplores 769 dead in 24 hours. In France, where the threshold of 30,000 proven cases is about to be exceeded, confinement was extended until April 15.

An “extremely high wave” of the Covid-19 epidemic is now sweeping France. The words are from the Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, and were spoken this Friday as the country is preparing to cross the threshold of 30,000 proven infections for 1,696 deaths.

The situation is still very critical in the Grand Est and in Île-de-France, where resuscitation capacity is saturated in several establishments. The executive has also decided to extend the containment measures for at least two weeks until April 15.

Elsewhere in Europe, Italy and Spain are among the main victims. The first established this Friday the worst record ever recorded on a day since the start of the epidemic with 969 deaths, bringing the total of deaths to 9,134 on the other side of the Alps. The situation is just as dramatic across the Pyrenees, where 769 people lost their lives in 24 hours.
