IMMIGRATION – Two migrant smuggling convoys in custody

The gendarmes the Territorial Brigade of Joal Sy managed to get their hands on two conveyors, this Tuesday, May 09, 2023. They also arrested 21 candidates for irregular emigration, including a daughter and a Gambian national. Both organizers are currently in custody. Elements of the Joal Territorial Brigade seized two pirogues, two engines, 24 20-litre cans and four 30-litre cans containing gasoline.

As a reminder, an emigration attempt was foiled by this unit of the Thiès Gendarmerie Legion on 07 May 2023 at 2am at Joal beach near the fishing school.

It should be noted that candidates for illegal emigration are not discouraged in Senegal, where young people are trying against the wind and laughing to join the Eldorado despite the many deaths recorded since the outbreak of this affair in 2006.

Clandestine migration has accelerated over the past three years in Senegal, most often in dramatic proportions. Not only does this affect the most valid branches of the country, but the risks are high given the conditions in which the journey to reach the shores of the Canary Islands takes place. The increase in youth unemployment and the development by Europe, which is the main destination of Africans, increasingly restrictive migration policies are the factors leading young people to try by all means to reach Europe, at the expense of their lives.
