SENEGAL – Sonko-Mame Mbaye Niang: Sale of prohibited fuel

After making an order this Saturday, April 15 prohibiting the sale of bulk fuel throughout the territory of the Dakar region, Governor Alhassane Sall, has again this Sunday 16 April to release a document temporarily limiting the circulation of motorcycles and mopeds this Monday 17 April from 06 am to 00 am. This decision of the governor is in the perspective of the tumultuous trial in defamation of this Monday, April 17, between the Minister of Tourism, Mame Mbaye Niang and the leader of Pastef Ousmane Sonko. In the order, Mr. Sall invoked article 1 of the 72-02 of February 1, 1972, to justify his decision to prohibit the circulation of these machines within the perimeter of the department of Dakar.

As a reminder, the main opponent of the regime of President Macky Sall, Ousmane Sonko sentenced in first instance in the defamation case against Minister Mame Mbaye Niang, will have to face the judges of the Court of Appeal of Dakar. This court will decide again on the judgment delivered at first instance on 30 June. The leader of Pastef Ousmane Sonko, who was sentenced to two months with a stay and 200 million damages, has not yet appealed.

At the announcement of this appeal made by the prosecutor’s office and the minister Mame Mbaye Niang, many voices are raised to denounce what they call a will of the power to make ineligible Ousmane Sonko.

Aphone since his conviction, Mr. Sonko who made his first public appearance this afternoon on Sunday during the launch of the platform of struggle of the living forces of Senegal, after his hospitalization, is much awaited by his supporters. The question that remains open is will Ousmane Sonko launch a call for mobilization on this eve of trial or will he continue to remain silent? Mystery and gum ball!
