SENEGAL: The third man of the Socialist Party, Ousmane Tanor Dieng bowed out.

Senegal in mourning, Ousmane Tanor Dieng President of the HCCT gave up this morning in Bordeaux. The final qualification of the Lions of Teranga is enamelled by the painful disappearance of the Secretary General of the Socialist Party. Indeed, the mayor of Ngueneen, a commune located in the department of Mbour, 80 kilometers south of the capital Dakar, has been bedridden by his illness for a long time.

A great politician and emeritus administrator, the last Prime Minister under the regime of former President Abdou Diouf, was a close associate and ally of the BBY (Benno Bokk Yakaar) coalition led by the current President of the Republic, Macky Sall.

Ousmane Tanor Dieng has, until then, ensured the legacy of his political formation that led Senegal from 1960 to 2000.

With the advent of the first alternation in 2000, he became a direct opponent of the then regime with the head of power the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) led Master Abdoulaye Wade. Thus, he held the post of National Secretary General of the Socialist Party until his death on Monday, July 15, 2019.

It was in 2012 when Macky Sall, surprise guest at the presidential elections, candidate of the Alliance for the Republic, came in coalition in the second round, elected to the presidency thanks to the unwavering support of Ousmane Tanor Dieng. The latter will be rewarded by the newly elected president. On July 20, 2016, it is by decree that he will be appointed as the President of the High Council of Territorial Communities (HCCT).

Today, this sudden and unexpected loss of one of the icons of the Senegalese political scene, a figure however controversial, President Macky Sall has just separated under the death of death one of its most sincere allies.
