After having eliminated FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively in the eighth of the final and in the quarter-final, PSG was expected this Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Parc des Princes against the brilliant team of Manchester City. But Mauricio Pochettino’s men clashed with the talent and physical freshness of the Citizens. In an exciting game with several twists and turns, Manchester City snatched the win in this first phase of the Champions League semifinals (1 – 2).

The PSG lost the first leg of this Champions League semi-final and scored two goals at home against the English from Manchester City. It’s a real nightmare for the Parisians who had a great mastery and a good tactical organization throughout the first half. Moreover, Marquinhos opened the scoring in the 15th minute of play by taking back a corner shot by Angel Di María (1 – 0). The Parisians showed a great mastery in the first half by preventing the Citizens from finding spaces and obtaining opportunities. The only dangerous situation obtained by the men of Pepe Guardiola is the shot of the young Englishman Phil Foden two minutes from the break and diverted by the Costa Rican goalkeeper, Keylor Navas.

However, in the second half, the Parisians were less intense, the English dry-cleaning was very disturbing for the Parisian bloc, which retreated and exposed itself to the attacks of the Citizens. The Belgian Kevin De Bruyne scored the goal of the equalisation in the 64th minute on a cross whose trajectory was not appreciated by goalkeeper Keylor Navas (1 – 1). Seven minutes later, it is the turn of the African champion, the Algerian, Riyadh Mahrez, to shine by transforming a magnificent free kick that passes between the wall (1 – 2).

The PSG loses and will have to come out of the big game to hope to play a second consecutive Champions League final after the one lost last year against Bayern Munich (1 – 0). The team-mates of kylian Mbappé will travel next Tuesday for the return phase in England. They must win by at least two goals to hope to play in the final in Istanbul, Turkey. The Senegalese Idrissa Gana Gueye received a direct red card in the 77th minute on a dangerous mistake committed on Ilkay Gündogan, the German player of Turkish origin.
