FOOTBALL: Bayern eliminated, Barça saved by his goalkeeper, Real swept away

Bayern Munich, the 2020 European champion, failed to make it through the 16th German Cup final stage he won last year. He was eliminated by Holstein Kiel, a modest team from the second German division. The Barça had a hard time getting rid of Real Sociedad, in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup played in Cordoba. Had it not been for a flamboyant Ter Stegen, the blaugranas would be eliminated as was the case last year against Atletico Madrid.
Bayern leaves the competition
The football evening of this Wednesday, January 13, 2021 was one of surprises.Bayern Munich, winner of the championship, German champion and winner of the Champions League, was eliminated by a team from the second German division on the margins of the 16th final of the German Cup.After a close match where Bayern led the way twice thanks to Serge Gnabry (14th minute) and Leroy Sané (47th minute), the modest team of Holstein Kiel equalised thanks to Fin Bartels (37th minute) and snatched the draw in the final minute of the extra time by Hauke Wahl (95th minute). At the end of the overtime, the Bavarians lost to shots on goal 5-4 and left the competition prematurely.
The Barça saved by his German guard
Just like Bayern, FC Barcelona had a hard time taking over the Real Sociedad. Despite the inaugural goal of Frankie De Jong (39th minute), the Basques reacted quickly thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal on penalty (51th minute). The score will not change until the end of the extensions. In the shots on goal, the German goalkeeper Marc André Ter Stegen was imperial, he stopped 3 penalties and probably offered the victory to FC Barcelona 3-2.
Real Madrid surprised by the Basques
While football fans were hoping for a classic in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, Real was eliminated by Athletic Bilbao on Thursday 14 January on the pitch in Malaga. Thanks to a double from Raul Garcia (18th and 38th minute), the Basques managed to beat the merengues despite the reduction in the score during the second half of Karim Benzema (73th minute). Athletic Bilbao will challenge the Barça this Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 9pm in Seville.
