FOOTBALL: Message from the President of CAF regarding COVID-19.

As part of the health crisis linked to the corona virus, the president of CAF Ahmad Ahmad addresses the football community.

I send you the most sympathetic compliments from the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF). The past few days have been sad for African football and the world at large, due to the evolving nature of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world, which has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) ).

There is confinement in some of our member associations and in other cases, cessation of activities.

Although being a football organization, one of our objectives is to participate in the fight against the scourges which threaten the continent and humanity, and it is in this respect that we have taken major decisions to control and contain the spread of COVID-19. Consequently, we have suspended all competitions, including the Qualifiers for the Total African Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 and the Total African Championship of Nations, which was to be held in Cameroon from April 4 to 25, 2020. In addition , the 42nd Ordinary General Assembly of CAF also scheduled in Yaoundé for April 24, 2020 has also been postponed to a later date.

Football is the passion of the continent, but the health of players, officials, partners and supporters matters most at this stage. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and a speedy recovery to the infected.

Due to the spread of the virus, staff working at CAF headquarters were forced to work from their home from March 19, 2020 until the end of March.
In addition, we are monitoring the situation closely and are in constant contact with global partners such as WHO, FIFA and state agencies on the way forward.
I also congratulate the many legends and personalities of African football who have launched the #Safehands campaign on various social media platforms to stem the spread of the deadly virus.

Let us remain united in these difficult times in order to combat the scourge and restore our environment to its normal state.
May Allah protect us all.
