The Indomitable Lions, who took third place in the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, have a new coach. This is Rigobert Song. He succeeds the Portuguese Conceiçao dismissed from his post, as well as all his staff.
45-year-old Rigobert Song was named in place of Portuguese Conceiçao and will lead the Indomitable Lions team.
Rigobert Song has coached the national U23 selection, which he led at the 2018 African Nations Championship.
On the announcement of his appointment, Song announced on his Facebook page: “Cameroon and the Indomitable Lions jersey have given me everything. I am grateful. I am honoured to have been chosen to oversee the selection of the Cameroon flag. Beyond the privilege and joy that animates me, I measure the sense of responsibility entrusted to me. I would give anything, as I did as a player and captain of the selection to earn the trust that the State of Cameroon, the President of the Fecafoot – Official, Samuel Eto’o and its Executive Committee have placed in me.”
He added that he and his staff need “the support and prayers of millions of Cameroonians to write new pages in the mythical history of the Indomitable Lions.”
His first mission will be to qualify the Indomitable Lions for the next World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year. Cameroon faces Algeria in World Cup dams in less than a month.
