Haiti – 2189 deaths, the toll of the earthquake increases

The number of victims of the earthquake in Haiti, on Saturday, August 14, 2021, continues to grow. Emergency Preparedness announced on its Twitter account on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, that the tragedy caused 2,189 deaths, more than 12,000 injuries and 332 missing. Rescue and search operations are continuing in the country. More than 60,000 homes have been destroyed by this devastating earthquake, leaving thousands homeless. 

The toll is increasing every day. The earthquake of Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Haiti took the lives of 2189 people. Emergency Preparedness, which conducts search and rescue, reported 12,000 injured and 332 missing. 

The earthquake struck southwest Haiti at 08:29 local time on Saturday. Gutted buildings, remains trapped in the rubble and inhabitants completely destitute in the face of violent weather, this is the situation that faced this part of the country after the tragedy. 

It should be noted that on January 12, 2010, an earthquake of a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale devastated the Haitian capital and several provincial cities. The situation was catastrophic. More than 200,000 people had lost their lives and more than 300,000 had been injured during the tragedy that had put 1.5 million people on the street.
