ITALY: Matteo Renzi resigned.


Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi resigned on Wednesday (December 7th). However the head of state, Sergio Mattarella asked him to ensure interim pending the formation of a next government.

Following his failure in the polls on Sunday with a rejection of the referendum of his constitutional reform, Matteo Renzi resigned from the presidency of the Italian Council.

He was only a little over a thousand days at the head of the country. He had promised to leave if the “no” prevailed for his proposed reform of the constitution.

Since Thursday, President Sergio Mattarella has begun consultations of the political forces for the composition of a new government. It would also be an opportunity to determine the new course of action and identify future missions.
