Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of La Francophonie, expresses her deep concern following the arrest by soldiers of the President of the Transition, H.E. Bah N’Daw, his Prime Minister, Mr. Moctar Ouane and some of their collaborators, Sunday, May 24, in Bamako.
Joining ECOWAS and the African Union, as well as other international partners of the Mali Transition Support Group, It strongly condemns this extremely serious act and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the legitimate transitional authorities from the military elements concerned.
Louise Mushikiwabo reaffirms her full support for the transitional authorities and calls for strict compliance with the framework and modalities negotiated and recognized for the conduct of this process, within the established timetable. It calls for a sense of responsibility and the preservation of Mali’s best interests.
cThe International Organization of La Francophonie, which has been mobilizing for several months alongside international partners for the effective return of a constitutional and democratic order in Mali, supports efforts to ensure the resumption of the transition process. The Secretary General of La Francophonie asks her Special Envoy for Mali, H.E. Sheikh Tidiane Gadio, to continue to monitor developments closely.
