Memphis Depay and Paul Pogba were the first players to react to the final verdict of the rape and attempted rape trial brought by several girls against Benjamin Mendy.

The two players called for the restoration of the image of their comrade who was cleared by British justice on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
On Twitter, Depay exclaims: “Benjamin Mendy. All cases dismissed. And what do we do now? Who will help our brother to heal? Who will bear the responsibility for the damage done to his name? How will he recover his career? Years of investment to become a professional football player and now what?! I never brought it up because I didn’t have all the details, but I talked to him once in facetime when he was behind bars, and I confronted him a few times on the ground. I have not seen anything evil in this man. We cannot accept that such things happen to us as athletes. Who’s going to stand up for us, when we need them and not just when the damage is already done? Don’t turn your back on people.”
