GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT – On July 16, Senegal will receive a new nine A320neo presidential command aircraft acquired from the Airbus company, announced the Government Spokesman Minister, Oumar Guèye.
In a press release to the Aps, he stated that this new aircraft was purchased to replace the A319, manufactured in 2001. It was acquired in second hand in November 2010, before being put into service in March 2011.
It indicates that after two decades of operations, the A319 has become obsolete, requiring frequent and expensive technical visits, and consequently long periods of capital and aircraft rental expenses to carry out presidential missions.
According to him, ‘it seemed wise to put the old aircraft on the market and to acquire a new aircraft, more fuel-efficient and more efficient by its range’. Such an option would seem to reduce maintenance and operating expenses and technical call expenses “considerably”.
He recalled that, in accordance with the purchase contract signed in June 2019, payment for the new device was made in due dates, the last of which is scheduled for delivery.
