It is through a press conference of this Wednesday, November 24, 2021 that the leader of Pastef-Les Patriotes, Ousmane Sonko explained his motives for not signing the Charter of Non-Violence. According to him, the latter is a means of muzzling .

The leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko mentioned on Wednesday 24 the charter of non-violence and the many times he was attacked by members of the government. He believes that it is they who should respect it first.

We have been under attack from every angle since 2015. You have never seen Pastef or members of the opposition attack the members of power. You have never seen Pastef sabotage a power rally. On the contrary, every time we travel, we are persecuted, attacked. Every time, we are victims of violence by members of the government. Why make us sign a non-violent charter? While the violence comes from them,” he asks.

According to the opposition Ousmane Sonko, Senegal has never had a President as violent as Macky Sall. “We are at a point where every member of the government who attacks Sonko is congratulated by Macky Sall. He does nothing to calm the tension. Have you ever seen him condemn an attack on me? It will never happen,” says Ousmane Sonko.

The leader of Pastef believes that this charter is a way to muzzle the opposition. We filed several complaints after having suffered violence. But, there was never an investigation. So what can this charter regulate that the Constitution and laws cannot regulate?” he said.
