BURUNDI: Évariste Ndayishimiye elected president

ZE-AFRICANEWS – On Monday, 25 May 2020, the National Electoral Commission announced the final results of the presidential, municipal and legislative elections of 20 May 2020. Évariste Ndayishimiye candidate of the presidential mobility holds the majority of votes, he is elected president of Burundi.

The CÉNI announced the results of these long awaited elections, the president-elect wins 68.72% of the votes cast against 24% for his political opponent Agathon Rwasa who is already contesting these results of the National Electoral Commission.

However, despite these protests, Évariste Ndayishimiye of the CNDD-FDD expressed his satisfaction on the conduct of this triple election, which, according to him is a victory of the party which he is the secretary general since 2016.

He is 52 years old, he will be unsurprisingly the successor to outgoing President Pierre Nkurunziza.

Recall that the turnout for these elections was 87.7% according to the National Electoral Commission.
