IVORY COAST: Revision of the lists of electors

The revision of the electoral lists will be held from June 10 to 24, 2020. The announcement was made at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. This decision confirms a proprosition of the Independent Electoral Commission in this direction.

The Ivorian government adopted this Wednesday, May 27, a decree fixing the revision of the electoral list for the period from June 10 to 24. According to the press release: «In accordance with the national electoral legislation and on the proposal of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), this decree fixes the revision of the electoral list over the period from 10 to 24 June 2020». 11,000 enrolment centres will be opened to facilitate and enable applicants to be closer to their place of registration on the list of electors.

This proposal, however, is not unanimous, several opposition parties including the PDCI, the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire, reject this electoral calendar.

Another possibility initiated by the CIS, because of the presence and spread of the coronavirus in the country, voters who want it can change your location online on the internet.

“Pursuant to the Electoral Code, this decree specifies the terms of proof for a possible change of voting place for the electors concerned,” reports the press release.

The creation of a new national identity card that will allow voters to be registered on the list of electors began more than three months ago. More than 400 thousand Ivorians have already been recruited out of 11 million people.

The presidential election is scheduled for 31 October 2020.
