The African Football Confederation (AFC) has reportedly asked Algeria to be ready for a possible organization of the CAN 2024 scheduled so far in Côte d’Ivoire less than a year before the start of the most prestigious football competition in the African continent. The information was delivered by the Algerian website Fennec Football.

Originally scheduled for 2023, the Africa Cup of Nations will finally be postponed by a year like the previous one played in Cameroon in 2022 and which saw Senegal crowned for the first time in this category. Côte d’Ivoire has been designated to host this edition. A month ago, the governing body of African football confirmed the dates of the next CAN. The opening match will take place on Saturday 13 January 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan. The four-week tournament, between the 24 best nations in Africa, will officially end on 11 February 2024, the FCA said in a statement.

According to some indiscretions, the country of legend Didier Drogba does not seem to be ready to host this tournament in time. Thus, the body led by South African Patrice Motsepe has reportedly asked Algeria to stand ready to take over the torch in the event of Côte d’Ivoire’s withdrawal.

Note that after four games played in the playoffs, Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, Burkina Faso and Senegal are qualified for this competition and of course Côte d’Ivoire. The last two days scheduled for June and September will allow us to know which teams will complete the table.
