On suspicion of crimes against humanity committed in Chad and Sudan between 2005 and 2010, the Chadian opponent Mahamat Nouri was arrested at his home and placed in custody Monday, June 17, 2019 in France as part of a investigation opened since 2017.

The President of the Union of Democratic Forces for Development (UFDD), Mahamat Nouri and two other suspects were arrested Monday in France in an investigation for war crimes and crimes against humanity. They were detained by investigators at the Central Office for Combating Crimes Against Humanity, Genocide and War Crimes (OCLCH).

The spokesman of the UFDD, Mahamat Affileck Halata, indignant at the arrest of their president, finds in his words that France “becomes the arm of the regime of Idriss Deby.”
