CONGO: Young Ace Wayé wins RFI Discovery Prize 2020

Congolese artist Young Ace Wayé was chosen among the 10 finalists for the 2020 RFI Discovery Prize. The artist is from the Republic of Congo. He arrived in front of the Gabonese singer Shan’L and the collective D6Bel chadian.

Rolf Derly aka Young Ace Waye or N.D.R of his stage names is a rapper and singer who has made himself known since 2015 on the Congolese scene. Music has been his passion from a very young age. Theatre and drawing were his first fields of preference, but it was music that subsequently occupied an important place in his life.

It is within the group Bones Clique, composed of Snom, Slmsi, GRC and B-Tween that he makes his first steps and writes his first songs, songs with rich compositions of his various expatriate experiences. I
Young Ace Wayé began his solo career in 2015. In September 2016, he released the opus Ombres & Lumières: Le Prélude, alongside artists such as Boa Mokonzi, Skrappy, Sledge and Darcy under the label Mercure Squad with Mercure Studio of which he is the co-owner. That same year, he won the 2016 Beat Street Awards in the men’s revelation of the year category. In July 2017, he released a mixtape entitled Kontrol which gave him the Beat Street Awards in the urban mixtape category 2017. In March 2018, he released the single “Mama” in collaboration with Durhiel, an ode to women.

“Mbok’Oyo” a title that deals with social events was released in December 2019. This title from his next EP soon available is a real success. Young Ace Wayé who knows a buzz is now an essential artist of Congolese rap.
