Former 37-year-old Ivorian international, Yaya Touré Gnégnéri, ended his career as a footballer and started coaching. He now becomes the assistant coach of the Olimpik Donetsk, a Ukrainian club, a championship in which he has already played as a player during the 2004/2005 season. However, the duration of the contract is not specified but the Ivorian will be next to Igor Klimovsky until summer 2021.
Yaya Touré returns to a championship he knows well because he evolved there at the beginning of his career. The former fabulous midfielder of FC Barcelona and Manchester City will become a coach and more precisely an assistant coach. I started my professional career in Donetsk, recalls the former midfielder, on the site of the Olimpik. Now I’m here to begin my coaching journey. Of course, I understand that Olimpik is not Metallurg, but I remember well how friendly and open people were in Donetsk.”, says the Ivorian giant of 1m 91.
This new phase of the Ivorian’s career begins with L’Olimpik, a city located in the east of Ukraine and 7th in the local championship (Premier League). Yaya Touré is therefore facing a difficult challenge, but she is determined to put herself to work from the sidelines. To be honest, even my agent was surprised when he discovered that I wanted to study to become a coach in Ukraine, but I was firm in my decision, It’s not so easy to find a place where you can quietly, without unnecessary pressure, study, where you will be accepted as a friend.”
