The former President of Niger, Mouhamed Issoufou reacted to the seizure of power by the military last Wednesday. He announced mediation with the junta to obtain the release of President Bazoum and his reinstatement in office.

“Since July 26, our country has entered a difficult phase in its history. Faced with the serious situation that is shaking it, I have tried, through various channels, to find a negotiated way out of the crisis, in particular to free President Mohamed Bazoum … and restore it to its proper function,” he wrote on Twitter.

Before calling on the people of Niger to calm down. “As long as there is hope of achieving this I will continue on this path. I take this opportunity to call for calm. I ask everyone to refrain from violence. I ask everyone to do everything possible to protect people and property not only Nigeriens but also foreign nationals living in our territory Do not forget the values of Peace ,of fraternity and hospitality that have always characterized our society. Let’s use it to avoid chaos in our country,” he says.
