FOOTBALL – “Senegal is the best football team on the continent” according to Paulo Duarte, coach of the Eperviers

The coach of the Togo team Paulo Duarte among other football technicians, consider Senegal to be the best team of the African continent. Senegal’s national team is a dream come true not only for its results but also for its continental ranking. The Lions of the Teranga occupy, in fact, the first place at the African level for a long time.

The Portuguese Paulo Duarte is formal, the Senegal team excels in its field and stands on the podium of the continent’s football history. The selection is full of talents such as Sadio Mané who plays in Liverpool in England, Gana Gueye at PSG in France or Kalidou Koulibaly in Naples in Italy, who make football fans vibrate in different international championships. This supremacy is now praised by Togo’s coach who shares Group H with Senegal, Congo and Namibia on the margins of the 2022 World Cup playoffs. “As before, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Egypt were stronger, today Senegal is the strongest”.

The Portuguese also recalled his upcoming confrontations with Senegal and is already setting goals: ”A few months ago, I came across this team and we missed the qualification for two points, when FIFA decided to replay a match after a year. If it wasn’t for that match, Burkina Faso qualified for the World Cup. But despite all that, we have to prepare our team with the goal in mind. The goal is to go and beat Senegal for this first match. Show that Togo has a future, good players and is able to do that”.

Even if the national team is seduced by its performances, the lions of Senegal have the heavy task of preparing themselves accordingly to face their opponents in this group H. Note that despite their great team, the Senegalese are still slow to win a continental title.

As a reminder, Paulo Duarte has been at the head of the Eperviers du Togo since May 3, 2021. He replaces Claude Le Roy who had resigned his position.
