A first French plane carrying 262 people evacuated from Niger landed at Paris-Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport shortly after 1:30 am on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday 03 August 2023, an airport source told AFP, a few days after the military coup in the country.
In addition to a large majority of French, have also landed Nigeriens, Portuguese, Belgians, Ethiopians and Lebanese, told the press at Roissy airport the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A second flight should land at night, with French, Nigerien, German, Belgian, Canadian, American, Austrian and Indian on board, according to the same source. Upon their arrival, about twenty members of the French Red Cross are present to offer bottles of water and snacks.
Of the approximately 1,200 French registered on consular lists in Niger, according to Paris, 600 nationals would like to return to France. The authorities want to close the operation by mid-day on Wednesday. Four repatriation planes have been scheduled for the moment.
