Outgoing President Alpha Condé , candidate of the ruling People’s Rally of Guinea, the RPG, was elected at his own succession with 59.4% against 33.5% of the vote in the first round of the presidential election. He won the bid against his main challenger, candidate Cellou Dalein Diallo of the UFDG, who had also declared himself the winner before the publication of the results. 12 candidates were in the running for this presidential chair for this election on October 18, 2020.

During these crucial elections for the people of Guinea, the country plunged into a spiral of post-electoral violence. Clashes took place between the police and opposition supporters, which resulted in dozens of deaths.

The opposition, which had already challenged Alpha Condé’s wish to run for a controversial third term, is now challenging these results.
