The former president of the Ivorian National Assembly remains under a warrant of arrest for «alleged attempt of insurrection».

On Wednesday 22 April, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) ordered Côte d’Ivoire to suspend its arrest warrant against Guillaume Soro and release 19 of his relatives who had been imprisoned for four months.

An African Union institution based in Arusha, Tanzania, the ACHPR, which was seized at the beginning of March by Mr. Soro and his relatives, “orders the defendant State (Côte d’Ivoire) to stay the execution of the arrest warrant against Guillaume Soro”, in a judgment published on Wednesday.

Declared candidate in the Ivorian presidential election scheduled for October, Guillaume Soro was the subject of an arrest warrant by the Ivorian justice since the end of December 2019 for an alleged attempt of «insurrection», and embezzlement of public funds, all charges denied by the former leader of the rebellion of the 2000s.
