Guillaume Soro’s candidacy was not validated by the Constitutional Council. The founder of Generation and People in Solidarity (GPS) will not participate in the presidential election.

According to Mamadou Koné, the president of the institution responsible for judging the validity of the candidacies, Guillaume Soro’s candidacy is deemed inadmissible: “Considering that the candidacy file of Mr. SORO KIGBAFORI GUILLAUME does not comply with the provisions of the Article 48 of the Electoral Code which subordinates the validity of the candidacy for the presidency of the Republic to the quality of elector, which results from the registration on the electoral list “.

“I vigorously contest the unjust and unfounded decision taken this Monday, September 14, 2020 by the Constitutional Council. I consider that it is an unfair decision, politically motivated, legally lame and which is part of a logic of destruction of democracy and The rule of law. The Constitutional Council under Mamadou Koné has just endorsed, and this without surprise, the forfeiture and perjury of Mr. Alassane Ouattara, thus devoting the submission of Law and Justice to the rule of the RHDP and of its President. We cannot accept this Coup d’Etat enacted by the Constitutional Council. In these circumstances, I am announcing that we will initiate a new stage in our fight for democracy in our country. It will be bitter but we will win it without any doubt.” said Guillaume Kigbafori Soro.
