IVORY COAST – The winger Jérémie Boga turns his back on the French team

Jérémie Boga, the Ivorian player of the Italian club Sassuolo, preferred to play with the elephants of Côte d’Ivoire while his profile delighted the French team. However, he is one of those players who are eligible for a change of sports nationality due to the reform carried out by FIFA in September 2020. But the 24-year-old Ivorian definitely made his choice, to play in Africa with the Ivorian national selection.

Selected once with Côte d’Ivoire in 2017, Jérémie Boga is convinced that he only wants to wear the colors of the Elephants. “I always wanted to play for Côte d’Ivoire, so it has nothing to do with me. It was a decision made by the coach of the time (Marc Wilmots). It’s true that I was disappointed, but now I spoke with the new coach Patrice Baumelle and he follows me closely – we are in contact,” said the player at the BBC.

Despite his French origins (he was born in Marseille), Jérémie Boga is strongly linked to Côte d’Ivoire. He hopes to be selected soon to showcase his talent in Africa. “I was born in Marseille, grew up in London and played for France at the youth level, but the link with Côte d’Ivoire is nevertheless very strong. My family has taught me to really know and love our country, and that’s where it all comes from,” the footballer added.

Jérémie Boga plans to improve his game with the brilliant Ivorian selection who has always had excellent players in recent years like Yaya Touré, Didier Drogba, Kolo Touré, Salomon Kalou or Gervais Kouassi dit Gervinho.

There is so much talent in the team and all it needs is stability. The new coach needs the time to grow the young players and give them experience. It’s a question of stability and consistency; once we have them, our football will be much better. And if I continue to work hard and perform, I hope to celebrate my next convocation,
