Colonel Assimi Goïta was reportedly not injured in the attack that took place during a religious ceremony. President Goïta was then taken away and did not appear to have been hit, according to AFP. “It was after the imam’s prayer and sermon, or when the imam would have to go and slaughter his sheep, that the young man tried to stab Assimi (Goïta) in the back, but (this is) another person who was wounded,” AFP official Latus Tourè told AFP.
Since the end of May, Assimi Goïta has been chairing a transition that is supposed to bring civilians back to power.
