In a statement sent to AFP, Kylian Mbappé (24) claims to have warned the PSG that he did not want to waive his option for another year as of 15 July 2022. His mail sent on Monday served only to recall “what had already been specified orally beforehand”.

PSG had known for almost a year that Kylian Mbappé did not want to waive the option of an additional year in his contract. This is what the player assures in a statement sent to AFP on Tuesday, the day after sending a letter to PSG officially stating that he will not activate this option.

“The management of the club in charge of its extension”, signed a year ago, was informed as soon as “on 15 July 2022 of its decision (not to go beyond 2024, editor’s note) and the only purpose of the letter was to confirm what had already been specified orally in advance”, according to the text sent by the Blues player.

“Kylian Mbappé and his entourage say they never discussed this point with the club again during the year, except 15 days ago to announce the mailing, the statement continues.

No further extension was mentioned. Kylian Mbappé hasn’t asked to leave this summer, but has just confirmed to the club that he won’t be able to activate his extra year, after having already publicly stated in recent weeks that he will be a Parisian next season.”

Mbappé’s decision came less than two months after its extension

Finally, they “regret that the receipt of this mail has been distributed to the media and that these exchanges are made public with the sole aim of harming their image and the smooth conduct of discussions with the club.”

By announcing that he had informed the club of his intentions as early as July 15, 2022, Mbappé indicated that he had therefore made this decision only less than two months after the official extension.

Free in 2022 and eagerly courted by Real Madrid, the 2018 world champion had signed a new two-year contract with an additional year optional at the player’s discretion. The news was officially announced on the pitch of the Parc des Princes during the last match of the season against Metz on May 21, 2022.

The news release does not explain the reasons for this quick choice to not activate this option until 2025. Is this due to recruitment? On July 15, 2022, Paris had made official only one recruit: the Portuguese midfielder, Vitinha.

PSG was annoyed by Mbappé’s letter and would now consider selling his player this summer so as not to lose him free in a year.
