The Socialist Party will not present its own candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. This is the position expressed by the majority of socialist leaders at the Green seminar held this weekend at the Party House. Despite some headwinds Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye and Cie have reaffirmed their anchorage in Benno for the next race for the Palace.
The socialists gave several reasons. Les Échos, who gives the information, reports that they have stated that it would be inconsistent for their political party, after such a long companionship with Benno, to present under its own banner a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
Moreover, the newspaper continues, the majority of PS officials are convinced that, given the complexity of its procedures, their party will not have the material time to choose a candidate and present a credible candidacy.
Apart from the question of their position in Benno, the socialists raised other points such as party finances and quarrels between leaders. Les Échos informed that the conclusions of the seminar will be recorded in a synthesis report to be presented next week.
