Pastef leader Ousmane Sonko faced the press this Wednesday. This is to take stock of the «failure» of the gesture of the President of the Republic Macky Sall on the management of the pandemic of covid-19. According to the “patriot”, Macky resigned and abandoned the people who gave him everything. By Mohamed Rassoul GUEYE

The president of Pastef drew up this Wednesday, in his headquarters, a dark picture of the management of the pandemic of covid-19. Facing a few collaborators and a very small number of journalists, Ousmane Sonko said: We have received a lot of complaints from Senegalese women lately. We wanted to take things very slowly because we felt that exceptional circumstances required exceptional measures. But what has happened in recent times deserves to be highlighted. We do not have personal needs, but when Senegal needs us, we will be there. This is what justified our presence in the palace at the beginning of the crisis. But we didn’t expect anything serious because habit is second nature and we knew that it would be failure in the end. At the end of our hearing, we refused to give carte blanche to Macky Sall as some had done because the housing law is a measure that should only be taken in times of war,” Ousmane Sonko said.

Today we are approaching the peak, Macky wants to free the Senegalese. The crisis is very bad management. I agreed when Macky refused to repatriate the students from Wuhan. But we also had to have the political courage to close the borders and let the goods move. If we had taken these precautions, we would not find ourselves in this situation. This about-face will have serious consequences. Macky resigned and abandoned the people who gave him everything.”

According to him, the diaspora, teachers and many religious leaders contacted him to complain about the current situation. And yet, explains Sonko, this pandemic could be an opportunity for the State of Senegal to unify all the people around a single goal.

For Sonko, we had to consult all sectors before doing anything. What happened at the palace was not a consultation but rather a circus because everyone saw the end. And we knew that he had nothing sincere about it. And all this disorder is due to the lack of consistency in management. But let the Senegalese prepare, because we are going to have a very hard tomorrow.”
