SENEGAL: GALSEN HIP-HOP AWARDS: Daara J Family Best band album for “Yaamatele”


The 6th edition of the Galsen hip-hop awards (GHHA) initiated by Point Blank Prod took place on Saturday 12 December 2020 in a rather sober atmosphere. Due to Covid-19, the ceremony was held behind closed doors and the best artists or groups were recognized. The band Daara J family received the award for the best music video with “Tchekoule” and for the best album with the title “Yama Tele”.

The event was broadcast in real time by Senegalese private channels such as Dtv and 2Stv. It was followed by many fans of Senegalese hip-hop. The famous rap group Daara J Family, founded since 1990, won two trophies: the Best Music Video and the Best Album Band;a success they shared with their fans on the band’s Facebook page.

Other categories, exactly 11, were also awarded. The Best Lyricist went to PPS The Writah, Best Album in Dip with LNN. As for the best featuring, the choice was Karabalick and Rept’yle Music, «Fou Lerr lako tekk».

“Ash The Best” was voted Best Artist of the Year 2020. A distinction that proves that he gradually manages to impose himself on the Senegalese hip-hop scene. His real name is Elhadj A. Thiare, born on January 29, 1998 in Pikine, he is the son of a former artist who was part of the Senegalese reggae group «Niominka Bi».
